'The Wright Stuff' National TV Campaign

In partnership with UK online, The Wright Stuff, shown daily on Five at 9.30am, will be running a campaign to encourage viewers who have little or no experience of ICT and the internet to take the first steps into learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for UK online to promote the work of centres, and for new learners to make a perfect introduction to the world of IT.

The six-week campaign will launch on Tuesday 25th October with a phone-in topic, panel and audience debate on adult education and promotion of the helpline number -

freephone 08000 921 129.

Each day following the launch, a one-minute report on the benefits of ICT skills will continue to raise awareness of the campaign and repeat the helpline number.

Callers to the helpline will be given advice on courses as well as details of where to find their nearest UK online centre for access to IT, and support from staff in terms of getting started. Callers are asked to tell the centre that they have got in touch via The Wright Stuff.
Channel Five's The Wright Stuff, hosted by Matthew Wright, is the UK's most successful daily talk show.
We look forward to hearing from you!

BBC RAW, Skillswise & Webwise courses and activities

We can offer a range of courses and session guides from the BBC Website to assist anyone with a need to learn. From the very basics to Level 1 there is a wide range of courses and activities to suit.
For users new to the world of computers and the Internet, BBC Webwise can offer help and assistance to boost your confidence and get you satrted. With an Online computer tutor and the Beginners' internet course you'll soon be on the road to becoming a competent Web-user!

Skillswise is the BBC website for adults who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing and maths. It aims to become a thriving web community of learners and tutors.
The Skillswise website is based on the Adult and Literacy and Numeracy Core Curriculums for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. When the curriculum for Scotland is published we will ensure that there are also activities on the site relevant to this. (In the meantime, please see our notes on using Skillswise within a Scottish context).
All materials on the site are aimed at students who are studying at Level 1 of the new curriculums for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as this is the level of the new national tests in England and Wales. This equates to Intermediate 1 in Scotland. For the UK except Scotland, the Basic Skills levels are Entry Level 1, 2 & 3, and Level 1 and 2. Although Skillswise has received lots of requests to provide materials for students at Entry Level, all of our resources are currently focused on completing modules to complement the rest of the curriculums at Level 1.
Skillswise isn't a course, it is a resource from which learners and tutors can dip and adapt. The site aims to provide a revision resource for students and tutors and to continue building an online community where learners and tutors can share their learning and teaching experience.

RAW is a scheme to get you started with the very basics of Reading and Writing, and is a series of games, quizzes and activities to help you have fun while you learn! Also the BBC have tied RAW in with a series of programmes aired by the BBC such as Test the Nation, to add interactivity to the scheme. We will in the future hold some activities like a quiz with BBC DVDs as prizes, a fun way to have fun and learn at the same time!

For more details, please call in to the UKOnline centre and ask a member of staff for details, telephone us on 0151 513 8259 or Email s.cork.ukonline@gmail.com and we'll be more than happy to help! Alternatively go to the BBC Website and search for Webwise, RAW or Skillswise.
